Emergency First Aid for Sport

Injuries can happen in any sport no matter how much care is taken.  The most common injuries being; soft tissue (skin, muscle, ligament and tendon).  Bones and joints are frequently damaged.  Less common but potentially more serious injuries could affect internal organs such as the brain and the spinal cord. Sometimes, cardiac (heart) issues and stroke.

Someone trained in Emergency First Aid should always be available, and have at their disposal a First Aid Kit containing some basic equipment relevant to those injuries which may occur in the sport being covered.

The content of the course concentrates on the three principles of First Aid which are; Preserving Life, Preventing the casualty’s condition deteriorating and helping to Promote recovery. Practical Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) plays a hugely important part in this course and the ability by any First Aider to use this skill is of enormous benefit to the community at large and not just in the field of sport.

During this course, and under the tuition and guidance of a registered and experienced Sports First Aid Trainer, candidates will be introduced to:

  • The Principles of First Aid.
  • The Qualities and Responsibilities of a First Aider.
