Safeguarding and Protecting Children in Sport

This workshop is aimed at any individual who is involved with coaching, leading or assisting within children's activities. It covers topics including good coaching practice, recognising signs of abuse and the correct course of action to take if concerns are raised. The course is accredited by sportscoach UK. By completing this workshop you will be able to:

  • Review your own practice to ensure that it complies with advocated and recognised codes of conduct
  • Identify your values and feelings in relation to child abuse and recognise how these might potentially impact on your responses
  • Recognise signs and indicators of child abuse and understand the impact of abuse on children
  • Respond in an appropriate way to children who disclose that they are being abused
  • Take appropriate action if concerns are raised that suggest a child is being abused.

Most National Governing Bodies require sports coaches to complete a sportscoach UK (SCUK) Safeguarding and Protecting Children workshop or an equivalent workshop accepted by the individual NGB. The qualification will be valid for 3 years following the date of course completion. After this, the qualification will need to be renewed either by attending the course again or attending the follow on course entitled 'Safeguarding and Protecting Children in Sport 2'.

N.B: Delegates must be 16 years or over to complete this course

"I would definately recommend the workshop as even though it is a requirement for coaches to attend, it really does help in letting you know where you stand and how to respond to any situation in a teaching or coaching context"
